Robert 'Bob' Olley was born in 1940 in South Shields, on the North East coast of England. He is best known for his painting Westoe Netty (Netty or nettie being a term for toilet in the local Geordie dialect).
The painting is a comical picture of the men's urinal that was Westoe Netty. The lavatories originally stood on Chichester Road near to its junction with Imeary Street and Westoe Road in South Shields.
