More about Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums

Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums is responsible for managing nine cultural venues across the North East of England. These include museums, galleries and heritage sites; two of which are recognised as World Heritage Sites. We hold collections of significant international importance in archives, art, science and technology, archaeology, military and social history, fashion and natural sciences.

TWAM Enterprises Ltd undertakes commercial and enterprise activity (such as retail, venue hire and catering) to support Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums by increasing self-generated income.

All profits are donated to Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums Development Trust to further its charitable objectives.

The Trust (Charity No. 1137867) supports the work of Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums by raising funds from individual donors, trust and foundations to support a wide variety of museum activities including:

  • Exhibitions and displays
  • Capital improvements
  • Acquiring objects for the collection
  • Conservation and restoration work
  • Learning programmes
